Danza Della Luna
There are still places in this dreary world where you can escape and live in the fantastical if even only for one night. To step out in your finery and be the belle (or beast should you fancy) for the darkened hours. Danza Della Luna – dance beneath the moon – is now in its third year and this was by far the most spectacular. Not only did the patrons literally gasp when they walked into the magnificent gold gilded ball rooms of the Opera Ghent but the subsequent oohs and ahhs as they admired each other’s guises for the night filled the space between the beautiful cello chords. The theme was “The Fallen” and feathers, skulls, and black bejewelled fabrics were the order of the night. The backdrop of shiny opulence and chandeliers twinkling in mirrored panels gave an eerie reverence to the darker figures milling within.
A start of oysters and bubbles gave the VIP reception that taste of opulence, followed then by general entry and a three-course meal (which was a helpful interjection between drinking and mingling). Entertainment was in the form of burlesque, a contortionist and a band rounded up by a DJ. However, the highlight was certainly the fashion show which both designer and guests could take part in. The designer runway was nothing short of spectacular with Haute Gothure, Elysion Arts, Emmalyne Rose Designs, Somnia Romantica, Katrine Lanfire and Alice Corsets. While the public runway saw the fabulous creations of the guests themselves, and as an added bonus each stood a chance of winning three European breaks.
But rather than let me wax lyrical about this fabulous event, let me give you the words of the incredible Ambassadors to anyone thinking of attending:
Haute Gothure: Danza Luna gives you the opportunity to express yourself through creativity in all forms. In one magical evening you will enjoy dance performances, live music, a couture fashion show, quality food and you get the chance to meet artists from everywhere. And who doesn’t dream of walking around in beautiful ballrooms, dancing under the chandeliers and being surrounded by people in amazing costumes? For me Danza Luna is the highlight of the year!
La Scura: Let your dream come true – a wonderful place, in a beautiful city, with fabulous people and a program full of spirit and emotion.
Valentin Winter: Danza Luna is like a fairytale that has come to life. If you want to escape life for one night and dive into a dream full of glitter and grandeur this ball is the right place for you.
La Dutchessa: Make an effort to look absolutely smashing… the level of attire is very high and one can never be overdressed
And a surprise guest for the night, cutting the ribbon to the venue for the first VIP guests, was the Winner of Belguim’s Top Model, Yannick Geerts. Now this may seem like quite an incongruous guest. But you most certainly can’t judge a book by its (chiselled good looks and toned physique) cover. He was charming and really got into the swing of things and appreciated his glimpse into our underworld: “What makes life interesting is to discover new people and their passion. You can see different things while looking at the same appearance. To my wife and myself, we have expanded our consciousness and are happy to have shared this evening with warm-hearted people”
And you know – that’s what I adore about this event. You never know quite what to expect – except that it will surpass your expectations and the people you meet will fabulous in every way.
Initial tickets will be sale for next year through the regional Ambassadors listed on the website, then will be open to public sale closer to the time.
